The Sims 4 Gallery presented an opportunity to improve how players search for and discover community-created content. Our task was to redesign the search results experience with a more intuitive layout, making it easier for players to filter lots by size, type, style, and custom content preferences. We focused on creating a structured interface that would support quick filtering, personalized recommendations, and smoother access to creators. Through collaborative design iterations and player-focused UX decisions, we delivered a clean, organized layout that enhances discoverability while keeping the playful spirit of The Sims.

This was a solo project where I took on all responsibilities myself.

Overview

The Sims 4 Gallery offers players the power to share and discover creations—but its clunky filtering, overwhelming layout, and limited personalization often stand in the way. To elevate the experience, I redesigned the Gallery flow with a focus on intuitive search, smart filtering, and immersive previews. The result is a more organized, player-friendly interface that helps users find and download the content they love—faster, easier, and with far more joy.
  • Overwhelming Layout - The Gallery presents too much content with little structure, making it hard for players to know where to start or how to browse meaningfully.
  • Limited Filtering Options - Players can’t easily narrow their search by Lot Size, Type, or Style, and the filter interface is inconsistent and hidden.
  • No Personalization or Discovery Tools - The system doesn’t recommend content or help users find new creators, leading to repeated exposure to the same uploads.
  • Poor Visual Preview Experience - Thumbnails are small and low-context. Users can’t preview builds or Sims clearly before downloading, which creates friction and uncertainty.

Problems

  • Structured Layout with Clear Navigation - Introduce tabs (Lots, Sims, Rooms, Favorites) and a top search bar. Use a featured carousel to guide users toward relevant, curated content from the start.
  • Dedicated Smart Filter Panel - Place filters in a left sidebar with options for Lot Size, Type, Style, and Custom Content. Use checkboxes and dropdowns for clarity.
  • “For You” Section and Suggested Creators - Add a personalized recommendation feed and spotlight creators based on user behavior—similar to streaming platforms.
  • Immersive Preview Screens - Use full-width previews with pack requirements, tags, and creator info. Add one-click actions like Save, Favorite, and Download for speed and simplicity.
